Tips and tricks for baking in the air fryer
Tips for baking in the air fryer: which pans to use, how much to lower the temperature, how to keep the top from drying out and how long to bake different…
Pans matter
- Use silicone or metal pans that fit your basket.
- Don't overload the basket so the air can circulate freely.
Lower temperature than in an oven
- As a rule, set it 10–20 °C lower than an oven recipe says — otherwise the top browns too fast while the middle stays raw.
Foil and parchment
- When baking bread or a pie, you can cover the top with foil for the first 10 minutes so it doesn't burn.
Small portions, best results
- Muffins, buns and puff pastries bake faster and more evenly than large pies.
Open with care
- Check doneness with a toothpick, but don't open the air fryer too often — the temperature drops and the baking process is disrupted.
Moisture and softness
- For a softer crust, place a small heatproof bowl of water in the basket.
Baking times
- Hand pies and buns — about 12–18 minutes at 170–180 °C.
- Loaf cakes and bread — 20–30 minutes at 160–170 °C.
- The HAG-8080 air fryer “Baking” program: 160 °C, 30–35 minutes.
